LockState ResortLock RL2000 Silver LS-RL2000N-SResort Lock RL2000N-S Remote Code Door Lock, Silver Review
I have used 2 of these locks for two peroperties; One of them is in use for more than 2 years now. Overall I am satisfied and recommend it, specially for vacation rental owners. I'm not using the software and have been happy with the server remote access control Resortlock provides.Installation:
Programming is relatively easy and working with web-based tool for code generation is straightforward. However, installing it takes some effort. I wanted to keep my deadbolt and replace the bottom knob with this lock. In both cases the height of this lock was a bit too much. Hence, I installed RL2000 where deadbolt goes and moved the deadbolt down to where regular knob sits. This takes some effort and adjustment (here goes 1 star; they should have made it shorter). You won't have this problem if deadbolt spacing above regular knob is more than ususal.
Customer service:
It's pretty good so far, my 1st lock broke really quickly and they replaced it without much hassle. No problem with the replacements, so I'm counting it as a coincidence that shouldn't affect my rating.
Pros:
- Peace of mind; all your guests and cleaning crew only have temporary access and when you want it.
- No dependency on wireless internet or any other wiring or power.
- Easy to use and free remote web-based software.
- Battery life is decent, but it'll go down quickly in cold weather. Aim for changing batteries every 6 months if the weather is too cold.
Cons:
- Height; a shorter form factor is easier to install.
- You can't delete a code remotely (I understand why this is not possible with this type of technology, but useful to know for others). So, you should wait for it to expire if there is an issue.
- The codes are long, but there is aliasing option to assign a shorter one. Aliasing, however, doesn't work if that short code is used before for last 25 guests. Hard to know for a new guest. They should have make this Queue of last used codes much shorter (here goes away a partial star).
- Times seem to be in MT and sometimes confusing combined with Daylight Saving changes. But this is not a major issue. I always extend the period for 1-2 hours of safety zone.
