BARSKA Large Biometric Keypad Safe Review

This is a very nice bedside safe (if you have a large bedside stand) and it is a large safe. I call it a bedside safe because it has the biometric quick-access method. Scan your fingertips and/or thumbtips and you can open the safe in seconds without having to mess with the keypad or fumble with keys. Like all safes there is a key backup, but most users should never need to use this since the safe will warn you to change the 4 AA batteries before they become fully discharged.

This safe may be too large for many users for use as a bedside safe. It is large. It has two levels for holding handguns or whatnot. You can buy smaller biometric safes. I wanted a large one and this one filled the bill.

The strength of this safe is marginal. The walls are of fairly thin metal. A bad guy with an ax is going to have no problem destroying this safe to access its contents. On the flip side, your quick in-and-out thief may be discouraged. This safe is ideal to store firearms to keep them away from kids and other prying hands.

The safe is very, very easy to set up for both a custom combination and to register one's fingerprints. The instructions are simple and clear, as is the process. One thing: wipe the biometric surface with a lens cloth frequently; it does not respond well to smudges. Keep it clean and no problem.

One nit: the safe came with a surface pad only for the lower shelf; the upper shelf is bare painted metal.

For the money you get a lot with this safe as long as you do not require that your safe be fireproof and ax-proof. RJB.
