Toto MS970CEMFG#01 1.28-GPF/0.9-GPF Washlet with Integrated Toilet G500, Cotton Review

OK, I had been looking for a new toilet for quite some time. Toto was the brand that I deemed to be of extremely high quality. Our old (13yr) Gerber required a toilet auger for the last 4 weeks. The wife was on the toilet warpath. She told me to get a smooth outside that was easy to clean and if I wanted, get one with a washlet. I decided on this product and it arrived in perfect condition. After reading the installation instructions, I realized the cold water feed was in the wrong spot. For me, this required me rolling up the wallpaper, removing the wallboard, turning off the water and soldering on an extension as well as the requisite trip to Menards to acquire the necessary connector parts. Toto supplied the on/off valve.\

OK, so now the valve is in the proper spot, now to place this funny looking black thing that came with the toilet. I had a 3 inch drain, there are also 3 1/2 and 4 inch drain. I had to go back to Menards twice because I didn't measure the toilet to floor drain rubber adapter. Affixing the black thing was childs play. I did buy new toilet flange bolts. Ok, now I slid the unit into place and wa-la it fit. Now for the test run. Attach water supply, attach, electric. (I did not mention, I also had to move the electric supply down to the level of the toilet.) Water turned on.... nothing. Electric plug in, led's light up... commode seat rises like it is saluting me... then nothing. I push small flush on remote. I hear water entering the reservoir... nothing. I push flush again. It flushes. I am watching the toilet flush, it's Sunday night @ 9PM and I am watching a toilet flush, exciting. The test works.

OK, a few more screws to secure the unit in place and I acquired a new toilet paper holder too. The wife is a bit taken aback and will not read the 53 page manual. She tells me it is my toilet. I sit on it to adjust the various setting and because I don't realize how to stop the cleansing flow and endure 6 minutes of cleansing. (I later find out, I could have checked this out by deflecting the flow with my hand.)

We have had the unit 2 weeks now, it works flawlessly. The wife uses it and prefers it to everything else in the house. Here is the sequence, walk into bathroom, toilet lid lifts up automatically. Sit. Deodorizer activated. (Urine has an odor.) Stand up and walk away. For a more extensive evacuation, the sequence works in a similar manner. The difference is the remote and pushing it to increase or decrease the intensity and temperature of the flow of water, directionality, waffling, eccentric whatever. Basically once you figure it out, it really works. The blow dryer works pretty well too.

So what is the difference between this and our old Gerber. It's quiet and I don't believe will ever require a toilet auger. The wife is amazed how clean it has stayed- 2 weeks and appears to really be self-cleaning. But, keep in mind, (I read instructions) never wipe the plastic surface with toilet paper, always use a wet soft cloth and you won't scratch it somehow. I put a post-it note on the seat so the cleaning lady would not mess with it.
