Product Description

Armed with the most advanced motor technology and every feature you have come to expect from Festool, plus many more never imagined, the Carvex Jigsaws will surpass all expectations. Challenge any scribe line and curve with ease, thanks to the fully automatic blade guidance system that makes blade drift and deflection a thing of the past. The Carvex Jigsaws feature a revolutionary base-changing system that adapts to any application. Perfect visibility of the cut line is boosted by the 4-LED, stroboscopic system that penetrates through darkness and dust. Features and Benefits: Triple Blade Guidance: Festools patented triple blade guidance system prevents the blade deflection traditionally experienced when using a jigsaw. With the new Carvex jigsaws, the carbide guidance adjustment is completely automatic and tool-free. Splinter Free Cuts: Festools jigsaws utilize zero-clearance splinter guards that produce cuts virtually free of chips and tear-out, even when using a more aggressive blade in thin veneer plywood or melamine. Stroboscopic LED Lights: Four bright, white LEDs surround the blade on all sides so there are no shadows from the blade that might make it difficult to distinguish your cut line. These LEDs will synchronize with the oscillation of the blade so that the blade appears to be moving very slowly. Superior Dust Extraction: The lack of sawdust also improves your ability to guide the saw. A blower clears the path in front of the jigsaw in the event that youre not using dust extraction. Safety First: The Carvex jigsaw has an integrated blade brake and blade guard. The brake ensures that the blade comes to a stop extremely quickly once the jigsaw is turned off - a great safety feature. A metal blade guard is designed to keep objects from getting too close to the blade, again for safety.

Festool 561608 CARVEX PSB 420 EBQ D-Handle Jigsaw Review

I never owned a corded jigsaw and had a larger job come up which required a lot of detail cuts into 2x6 and 4x6 cedar. knowing my Makita cordless jigsaw wouldn't cut it i decided to jump on the Carvex. I spent some time in the store before release testing out the functions of both types and what would best suit my needs. I ended up with the D-handle Just because it can be used as a barrel grip and my Makita was a d-handle. The First day i was not too impressed by its accuracy as it was no better than my Makita but after a call to Festool they talked me through setting up the blade guides a little better. I didn't have them tight enough so i cant blame the tool for this. Well i moved onto cutting the 4x6 cedar and used the S 145/FSG blades which are 5-3/4" long. Well the adjustments worked. I was amazed how how nice of a finish the carvex left on this piece. i tested my Makita as a comparison and it didnt have the power or the accuracy to guide the blade where it needed to go. I also purchased the Base Kit and in the first couple of days used the Circle cutter and the angle base. Both worked very well and im using the circle cutter again today.

Ok lets get to the pros and cons. Remember i have only been using this tool since release so i have not had a great amount of time with it but here we go.

Pro's

Lightweight
Multiple ways to power the tool up
Strobe LED's
Splinter guard
Adjustable blade guides
(A) setting (ramps up power under load)
Numerous bases and Accessories
Powerful
Accurate
Loads of blade options
Dust extraction
Build Quality
Brushless Motor

Cons

No trigger release for left handed use (but can be turned on via other power switches)
Box layout for blade storage is poor
Have to remove base to remove and insert blades (Not a massive deal as its quick release but still a hassle)
Splinter guards don't last long

I had heard a few stories online of it being impossible to back cut scribes. This is not a function i have really ever used my jigsaw for as i use my track saw and RAS for this but thought i would try it anyway. I butted the cedar to the brick veneer. I scribed out the cut. There was as much as 3/8th difference in low and highs and normally i would take that majority of that difference out with the track saw first but i used the jigsaw as i heard it can not do this but i had zero issue with this cut. Im not exactly sure why some people are having issues with these cuts. I guess if you wanted to back cut a scribe 5" inside the edge without taking that edge down first this could be an issue but i use the jigsaw to make detail cuts and not rip sheets down to size so if they used the right tool first to remove the bulk of the material there would be zero issues. i just think its more to do with inexperience in carpentry than a issue with the tool its self.
